They have to be chestnuts! Mangia mangia
These are chestnuts with the protective outer spine coating intact. I’ve heard them referred to as horse chestnuts. Not so pretty but delicioso!
The picture looks like a variety of native chestnut, called chinkapin that we gathered when I was a young girl. The leaves look somewhat like Peach tree leaves.
They are chestnuts that have ripened! Lovely!
